What the pledge actually says

Every line of Free Navi's source code — the AI companion, the NaviBook social network, the auth system, the server backend, the client apps — will remain published under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPLv3) until at least July 4, 2041.

Source is public, forever readable
Anyone can read it, audit it, fork it, run their own instance. No "source available with strings attached." Real open source.

Network-use counts as distribution
AGPLv3 closes the SaaS loophole. If someone runs a modified Free Navi as a service, they must publish their changes. Nobody can quietly close-source a fork behind a paywall.

No relicensing under pressure
Not if we get acquired. Not if we take investment. Not if we run out of money. The 15-year floor is a hard commitment we can't quietly walk back.

If the company dies, the license lives
If Free Navi ever shuts down before 2041, the code stays public. The pledge outlives us. Anyone can pick it up and keep it running.

Why 15 years

Facebook was born in 2004. In 2015, it was still nominally about "connecting people." By 2020 it was a targeting platform for propaganda, a wholesaler of surveillance, and — if you asked the people who built it — a mistake. That's the shape of a decade in tech: what starts as a promise becomes, by the end, whatever the market can extract from it.

15 years is long enough to cover a full arc — the honeymoon, the growth pressure, the acquisition offers, the pivot temptations, the "it's just a small change" moments. Long enough that saying it out loud costs something. Long enough to be a real commitment, not marketing.

When July 4, 2041 arrives, we'll renew. Not because we have to — because by then the pattern will be the identity.

What breaks the pledge

Nothing.

Not investor demands. Not acquisition offers. Not competitive pressure. Not a bad quarter. Not a great quarter. Not a rewrite. Not a monorepo split. Not a business-model pivot. The clock runs. The source stays open.

If you ever find a version of Free Navi's source that isn't published under AGPLv3 or a strictly-compatible successor, this pledge has been broken. Screenshot this page and hold us to it.
